OMHA's Respect in Sport - Parent Program

Posted by Kingston Area Minor Hockey Association on Jun 16 2014 at 07:10PM PDT in 2013-14 Season

The Kingston Area Minor Hockey Association (KAMHA) is a proud member of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA).

‘Respect in Hockey’ is a concept that receives considerable attention in both minor hockey and in community sport. The OMHA is committed to the prevention of abuse, bullying and harassment, and the education of our membership.

At the 2013 Ontario Minor Hockey Association’s Annual General Meeting, the OMHA Board of Directors announced the OMHA will move to become a complete ‘Respect’ integrated association effective the 2014-2015 season. This affects all minor hockey associations operating through OMHA including KAMHA.

Effective August 31, 2014, the ‘Respect in Hockey’ initiative will require at least one parent or guardian of each player registered in minor hockey in the OMHA to complete the Respect in Sport – Parent Program as a condition of participation. The one-hour online course is a proactive, educational program that empowers parents with the tools to ensure the game is enjoyable and respectful for themselves, their children and all other stakeholders in the game.

This program is mandatory for your child’s participation in KAMHA’s hockey programs. It is ONLY REQUIRED that one parent per family take the program. There is a $12.00 fee associated with this program that will be the responsibility of the parent.

There is a small survey at the end of the course which will enable you to add your child/children to your RIS-Program. Children whose parent or guardian has not taken this course will not be rostered to a team in either house league or representative hockey and will therefore be excluded from on-ice participation.

KAMHA ask that you be proactive and take the mandatory course NOW so it will not hold up your child’s hockey season.
